Messi vs Mbappé: Battle of the tournament opinions ⚽
Lionel Messi is preparing for another Copa América with Argentina. Their main goal? Defend your title and show dominance by lifting the trophy again. To do so, they will have to beat tough rivals like Brazil and Uruguay. The tournament begins on June 20 in the United States.
La Albiceleste will have a warm-up game against Guatemala on Friday, June 14, at The Commanders Field. This match is crucial for coach Scaloni to assess his team and select the best starting eleven for Copa América 2024. Their first match of the tournament will be against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Messi responds to Mbappé’s claim
Recently, Kylian Mbappé, now at Real Madrid, shared his thoughts on Euro 2024. He believes it is more difficult than the World Cup.
“In my opinion, it is a more difficult tournament than the World Cup. Already from the group stage it becomes very, very challenging. We haven’t won it in 24 years, which is significant, but we’re not putting any extra pressure on ourselves. We are focusing on preparing well for the group stage in order to have a strong performance,” he said.
Messi’s Take
In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Messi shared his views. He also confirmed that Inter Miami will be his last club.
“Everyone appreciates the competition in which they play. Obviously, the Euros are very important to the top teams, but they exclude Argentina, the three-time World Cup champions, Brazil, the five-time World Cup champions, and Uruguay, the two-time World Cup champions. A lot of world champions are left out, so it’s hard to claim he’s the hardest.
“The best teams perform at the World Cup, including all world champions in general, and that’s why everyone wants to become world champions,” he concluded.
