Austin FC lost 5-1 against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at America First Field.
Brad Stuver made a solid save in the 10thth minute to deny Diego Luna, but RSL’s leading attack in the Western Conference was not denied. Cristian Arango and Anderson Julio each scored twice before half-time to make it 4-0 at the break.
Diego Rubio had a chance at the start of the second half, sending a volley over the crossbar. Jader Obrian then scored on a counterattack for Austin only to see the goal ruled out and a penalty awarded to RSL for a handball at the other end of the field, which Arango converted.
Austin scored himself from the spot in the dying moments as Alex Ring converted Owen Wolff’s penalty.
