Manchester United are seemingly accelerating their efforts to sign Sander Berge, having reportedly already made their decision concerning his potential wages.
Up until late July, United were thought to be prioritising signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils even found an agreement on personal terms with their preferred target to strengthen the midfield.
However, earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have started considering alternatives amid PSG’s reluctance to lower their demands.
Berge is viewed as one of the alternatives, and recent reports suggest he is the Old Trafford outfit’s preferred Ugarte alternative.
It is understood that United have already made contact with the representatives of the Burnley midfielder. Further, The Sun have now revealed the wages the Mancunian giants are prepared to pay the Norway international.
United are said to be willing to offer a contract worth £100,000 per week to the 26-year-old.
It is further claimed that the dynamic midfielder is “excited about the possibility of playing” at Old Trafford on a “bumper contract”.
However, the Premier League side still need to find an agreement with Burnley, who are hoping to raise as much as £30 million from Berge’s sale.
The Clarets only signed the Norwegian last summer from Sheffield United for a fee in the region of £12m.
United are reported to be open to offering £20m for the 6ft 5in midfielder, who is very comfortable in possession. He is also a Premier League proven midfielder, having made 66 appearances for the Blades and Burnley.
Burnley, meanwhile, are keen on holding out for their asking price as they are not desperate to raise funds through sales due to a £100m parachute payment upon their relegation to the Championship.
Having already refused to meet PSG’s high asking price, it remains to be seen if United will soften their stance during their negotiations with Burnley.
