Injuries have been the theme of Manchester United’s season, and the degree of bad luck has included confused fans.

Even Erik ten Haag said he’s never had this much injury luck in his career because he spent most of the season somehow fitting square pegs into round holes.

The position most affected was left back, as Tyrell Malacia has been MIA all season and his return deadline has been pushed back every time Ten Haag has spoken.

Luke Shaw was initially available, but only intermittently, before being completely out of action for the past few months.

However, the player himself has now revealed (via the Mirror) that his situation has less to do with luck and more to do with recklessness and poor decision-making.

Shaw revealed that after coming off at half-time against Aston Villa, he did not train for a week until the following against Luton.

He said the manager then asked him to play against Luton and he agreed, which he said he “shouldn’t have played”.

Shaw ends by saying that his situation is everyone’s fault, naming the medical staff and himself.

He said: “I felt something against Aston Villa and came off at half-time. I didn’t train all week and when the scan came back it wasn’t too much.

“Then I trained the day before the game (at Luton) – and if the manager asks me to play, I’ll never say no. But I shouldn’t have played. Somehow everyone is guilty. Partly my fault, partly the medical staff. I think everyone would admit that.”

He went on to reveal that in an effort to speed up his recovery and be available for the FA Cup final, he did worse.

He was on pace to be available three weeks before the finals, but a setback in his recovery pushed that timeframe to six weeks.

This is a huge discovery that paints Ten Haag and the medical team in a new light as more than people with bad luck.

Desperation saw them lose sight of the long-term goal and end up recklessly hurting themselves and the player.

This is something that needs to be addressed in the future and we hope that it will come under the club review being carried out by INEOS.
