Liverpool are on the lookout for a coach to join Arne Slott’s coaching staff this summer.

During his time in charge of Jurgen Klopp, responsibility for coaching was transferred to assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz.

But Slott will not delegate that task to any of the coaches he brings with him from Feyenoord, instead a specialist will be sought.

The Reds are following the growing trend of the Premier League looking to appoint a permanent manager.

Nicolas Jover has turned Arsenal into the division’s biggest set-piece threat, with 20 of their goals this season coming from that source.

Aston Villa have also seen their goal tally increase thanks to the work of Austin McPhee, who arrived from FC Midtjylland in 2021.

Liverpool are not the only side looking to improve their performance, with Chelsea recently poaching Brentford’s Bernardo Cuevo to fill a similar role.

However, the Reds will be hoping they can build on the solid foundations on which they scored 15 goals from set pieces last term.

The new coach will be tasked with conducting team sessions that can improve both the defensive and attacking elements of the set-piece.

Individual coaching focused on delivery into the box and finishing from such situations will also be part of the role.

Liverpool confirmed the appointment of Sloto on a three-year deal on Monday, with the Dutchman set to formally start work on June 1.

He is expected to bring with him assistant Sipke Hulshoff, head of performance Ruben Peeters and technical adviser Etienne Reijnen, although those arrivals are yet to be announced.
