Victory in the FA Cup final seems to have brought a wind of change to Old Trafford and Manchester United.
The manager’s future, which seemed all but done and dusted, suddenly became a topic worthy of debate, while the narratives surrounding certain players also completely flipped.
Chief among them is Sofyan Amrabat, the much-maligned defensive midfielder whose spell at United looks set to end with a whimper.
Instead, he produced the performance of his life in the final, deftly and persistently shackling Manchester City’s busy midfield.
It led to questions about whether United should turn his loan move into a permanent option, a thought that would be scoffed at just two weeks before the final.
United, of course, have yet to make a decision on who will be their manager next season, let alone their squad.
This has left their transfer operations at a standstill and Fiorentina, Amrabat’s parent club, appear to be feeling the brunt.
Club director Daniele Prade revealed that he would like to keep Amrabat at Fiorentina, but the player wants to stay in England.
Meanwhile, he has heard nothing from United on the matter, which is not ideal as his loan deal expires at the end of June.
Prade said that Amrabat has “different plans”, and since the player is entering the last year of his contract, the club does not have much influence in the negotiations.

In an ideal world, United could try to negotiate a lower price for the Moroccan instead of the reported £21.4m that is part of his loan deal.
That would allow United to get a rotating option on the cheap, Fiorentina to cash in on a player whose performances over the course of the season clearly don’t deserve an outlandish fee, and Amrabat to stay at a club where he finally seemed to have found his footing.
Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but at this point, clarification must be the first item on United’s agenda for the summer.
