Inter Miami and Real Salt Lake met in Florida in February in the opening game of the 2024 Major League Soccer season. With both teams leading their conferences, Miami and Salt Lake could also meet for the title-deciding MLS Cup closing game.
For Miami — home of stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Matias Rojas — dominance was expected. For Salt Lake, a small-budget side whose lineup is compensated far less than Miami’s, dominance has seemingly come out of nowhere.
One of the feel-good stories of the MLS season, Salt Lake is unbeaten in its past 11 MLS matches (seven wins and four draws) since March. It rallied from a 3-0 deficit on Saturday against Dallas to earn a 3-3 draw in the final minute and keep its hot streak alive.
