With fellow Dutchman Arne Slot taking over at Liverpool, Man United manager Erik ten Haag played down the work Slot has done at Feyenoord.

At the start of a season in which Man United finished with a negative goal difference in 38 matches, Ten Haag decided that “people are waxing lyrical about Feyenoord”.

I’m talking to Football Internationalwith quotations from A mirrorhe said that “Feyenoord was stable this year, but not the best.”

He then compared the team’s performance to Eredivisie winners Peter Bosz’s PSV, who finished seven points ahead of Feyenoord.

“PSV Eindhoven was two grades better in all areas; in terms of dominating the ball, in terms of applying pressure, in terms of intensity, you name it,” Ten Haag continued.

“Bosz and his staff did it superbly, but the rest of the club is also well integrated. PSV Eindhoven was better than the others by such a long distance, even much better than Feyenoord.”

Feyenoord finished second this season but won the Dutch Cup, beating Pep Lijnders’ former club NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in the final.

In Europe, they were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League and lost to Roma on penalties in the next round of the Europa League playoffs.

These are not the first comments by Ten Haag

The Manchester United boss believes Slott has a better platform to succeed at Anfield than he did at Old Trafford, underlining how he feels about his job in Manchester.

“This is great for the Dutch coaching guild, and Arne Slott also suits Liverpool with his philosophy,” Ten Haag told vi.nl.

“Jurgen Klopp and Pepijn Lijnders left a strong foundation.

“He ended up in better waters than me when I went to Manchester United from Holland, in terms of the structure at the club, in terms of the balance in the team.”

Ten Haag himself is expected to be sacked as Man United manager, despite his side’s victory over Man City in the FA Cup final last weekend.
